Make Eat Get Read Go – September 2018

September has been all about new routines for us and keeping comfort in familiar things. L started school and as a result I’ve started a new work pattern.

Make – Jam Tarts

We seem to be getting in to the habit of baking once a week. L loves a bit of cooking and it’s her way of winding down after a day at school. The most recent bake has been jam tarts all inspired by watching Cbeebies’ take on Alice in Wonderland.

Eat – Bustler Market

Buster derby street food market

Bustler street food market in Derby is run once a month and has been going for over a year. September was the first time we’ve managed to visit as before it has always clashed with other things. Entrance is £1 for adults and it was clear to see by the amount of families there that it’s a great family friendly place for lunch (or dinner).

With so many choice of street food traders we were spoilt for choice. We ended up going for wood fired pizza from Italian Stallion, beef brisket from Dick’s Smokehouse, bao buns from Deckards and a Korean hot dog from Canoodle.

Get – Spotify

Yes I’m finally with the times and have coughed up for Spotify Premium. Music is my life and there is always music playing when I’m at home. I have eclectic tastes and Spotify seems to satisfy that. A bit of Chromecasting means L can dance away to some Disney Classics as I’m prepping dinner or when I’m working some chillout playlist will be going. The ability to download playlists has made some longer car journeys recently more bearable.

Read – Masala by Mallika Basu

Mallika Basu Masala Indian Cooking for Modern Living

I’ve been a fan of Mallika’s blog for a very long time and her Miss Masala cookbook is one of the most used cookbooks here. A few years ago Mallika contacted me regarding the concept of her new cookbook and I was right behind her.

My copy of Masala: Indian Cooking for Modern Living landed this week and I’m proud to say I get a mention in the credits. The premise of the cookbook is about delicious Indian food that is accessible, suitable for busy lives and sometimes uses cheats. We all love a good cheat. I’m going to be cooking from it over the next month and can’t wait to taste the dishes.

Go – To school

We’ve survived our first month of school. After a few wobbles in the second week (from both me & L!) we’re back on track and L is enjoying the busy days and activities. We walk to and from school most days which is a nice time to wind down and talk about the day. Hopefully her enthusiasm for school will continue.

If we thought September was busy, October is about to go up a notch with a mini break, charity ball and Wedding of the Year with LB reprising her role as cute flowergirl.
